Today, a big fire engulfed the mountain of Shpirag, in the municipality of Berat.

Defense Minister Niko Peleshi informs that the situation is now under control.

100 members of the Armed Forces were deployed on the ground.

"The situation is under control and the fire is moving towards complete isolation on Mount Shpirag, in the municipality of Berat. In support of the forces on the ground, 50 more troops from the Pošnje ward were engaged, bringing to 100 the number of members of the Armed Forces who are working intensively until its final extinguishment. Due to the difficult terrain that does not allow intervention with firefighting equipment, the Cougar helicopter came to the rescue in the early hours of the morning, continuing the intervention from the air throughout the day," writes Peleshi on social networks.

In an earlier interview, the General Director of the National Civil Protection Agency, Haki Çako, accused the mayors of not answering the phone and why the situation with the fires could be alarming.

He did not directly mention the name of the mayor, Berat, but said that it should be understood who it is for and that these statements are being made from there, but they are for all mayors./ CNA
