The Head of the Special Prosecution Office, Altin Dumani, was present at the roundtable “Comprehensive Reform for Election Integrity.” During his speech, Dumani said that in total there are 192 materials related to suspicions of electoral crimes, where 43 criminal proceedings have been registered.

Of the 43 criminal proceedings, Dumani announced that 35 of them are for active corruption in elections, 4 for active and passive corruption, 1 proceeding for use of public office, 1 for use of public office and dereliction of duty, 1 for intimidation or violence against election participants.

Further, the head of SPAK said that many of the criminal proceedings are still active and searches have been carried out in homes and offices.

Dumani praised the cooperation with other participating institutions in the Task Force established in the framework of the May 11 elections and said that it was a productive and real-time cooperation. The head of SPAK also noted that SPAK and BKH prosecutors need to be trained to handle election crime cases carefully.

“ SPAK has registered 9 criminal proceedings mainly. 192 materials related to suspicions of electoral crimes. 43 criminal proceedings for electoral crimes. 35 for active corruption in elections, 4 for active and passive corruption, 1 proceeding for use of public office, 1 for use of public office and dereliction of duty, 1 for intimidation or violence against election participants.

Investigations for many of the criminal proceedings are active, house and office searches have been carried out. The challenges are not few. For every problem from political entities or associations, SPAK has made the relevant verifications. The decisions not to initiate, 43, are the product of the collection of acts and evidence. Of these, only 3 decisions not to initiate have been appealed, where the court has left the decisions of the special prosecutor in force.

I wanted to emphasize the importance of cooperation, I would highly appreciate it, very productive and in real time. Public awareness is needed for witness protection. It is necessary to treat prosecutors with care to handle cases of electoral crime. SPAK is maximally engaged in the investigation of electoral crime and thanks to cooperation we have managed to carry out verifications for every case that has been addressed to us in a very short time.
