The decision of the Supreme Court for the directors of Veliaj/Lapaj: It stinks,
Adriatic Lapaj

The Supreme Court has overturned the decision of the Special Appeal to leave in force the measure of arrest and imprisonment for the directors of Erion Veliajt, Mariglen Qato and Redi Molla, who were put in handcuffs in May 2024.

In relation to this decision, the founder of the movement Albania Becomes Adriatic Lapaj has reacted, a case which he parallels with that of deputy Ervin Salianji.

He writes that Salianji is sentenced to prison for a report, while the Supreme Court overturns the decision for the two directors of Erion Veliaj who laundered millions of euros from the taxes of Albanian citizens.

"So MP Salianji was accused of "false report" under article 305 of the Criminal Code. Referring to the content of the provision, the punishment it provides for is a fine or imprisonment for up to 5 years.

The legislator has provided that the punishment for this offense starts with a fine precisely in those cases where the circumstances of the offense do not pose a high risk to society.

Based on the facts, it appears that the deputy publicly denounced a fact which was proven after the minister's brother ended up in prison. In other words, although the internal denunciation may have violated the law (in some of its aspects), it has basically been proven how long the subject of the denunciation went to prison for the sake of Italian justice.

From my professional experience for this type of crime, I have noticed that our courts have not applied the prison sentence. Then why a prison sentence for a deputy who denounced a true fact when the practice for this offense has not applied prison?

I am facing the political subject that Ervin Salianji represents, but this situation smells of corruption, when today the Supreme Court overturned the decision of the Court of Special Appeal that left in force the measure of "prison arrest" for 2 of the directors of 5D who are accused of laundering tens of millions of euros from our taxes.

It stinks when a man who accused a fact is sentenced to prison and those who stole 400 million euros of incinerators and so on do not go to prison.

A man who denounced a fact goes to prison, but no investigation is started at all against those who caused Albania 110 million euros of damage to Becket out of arrogance.

It smells a lot!", writes Lapaj./ CNA
