If you work remotely, this study can help you find the best places to work.
The Global Remote Work Index 2023 ranks 108 countries based on what they offer as remote work destinations. Albania ranks 51st.
The index measures four key areas that determine the quality of remote work: cyber security, economy, infrastructure and social security – including security from crime and protection of human rights.
The Global Remote Work Index 2023, published by the security organization NordLayer, is based on data from reliable and well-known sources, such as the United Nations and the World Economic Forum.
Northern European countries lead the Global Remote Work Index 2023.
The first ten countries of the classification are: Denmark, Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Portugal, Estonia, Lithuania, Ireland and Slovakia.
According to the authors, European countries represent most of the 50% of the global telework index.
Denmark's strengths for remote workers are its internet quality, social inclusion and health system.
In the Netherlands, economic stability is another advantage for telecommuting. This is mainly due to the "attraction as a tourist destination and the wide use of English" - say the authors.
Germany offers a good balance between cost and quality of life, with internet service being the most affordable in the world – according to the Global Remote Work Index 2023.

The best places to work remotely based on criteria
Slovakia leads the ranking of the top 10 countries for remote work for cyber security. This criterion includes the ability to respond to digital threats and the level of cyber security legislation.
In the Global Remote Work Index 2023, the UK ranks first for economic security. This category includes the cost of living, access to the health system, ease of communication and diverse opportunities for entertainment.
Singapore is the best country for digital and physical infrastructures, with stable, fast and widely available internet service and safe infrastructures such as roads.
Switzerland leads the 2023 Index for social security, which takes into account the physical security and protection of remote workers./ Monitor
