Prime Minister Edi Rama gave an interview to the Italian newspaper 'La Repubblica'.

During the interview, he spoke about the Albania-Italy agreement on the issue of immigrants.

What is Albania's interest in this pact?

Edi Rama: I answer with a rhetorical question.

"Who was in the interest of Italy to accept us at the moment when we were running away from hell when the communist regime fell. Where was the interest of Italy that has been a great help here in Albania. Or when she led her team to save lives when the earthquake happened here a few years ago.

For us, Italy is special, there is no direct interest, from a material point of view, we do not benefit from anything, we give it territorial availability and Italy deals with all the operational procedures", he said.

The request to host the immigrants, Rama says, has also been made by other countries of the European Union, but Albania has always rejected them.

Edi Rama:  During these years, we have had similar requests from other European countries, but we have always said no.
