Llogara tunnel nearing completion/ Expected to open for tourists in June

The director of the Llogara Tunnel project, Ardino Halimi, has informed that the goal is to open this tunnel for citizens in June.

The Llogara tunnel consists of two tunnels, the main tunnel and the emergency tunnel. Both the main and emergency tunnels have 11 interconnecting tunnels along the entire length of

 "This tunnel has its beginning 500 meters from the Saint Eliza bridge, which is part of the Orikum-Dukat road. The work has a total length of 7.42 kilometers. The Llogara tunnel consists of two tunnels, the main tunnel and the emergency tunnel. Both the main tunnel and the emergency tunnel have 11 connecting tunnels along their entire length.

According to the director, 95% of the project has been completed and only 5% of work remains.

"We are working with 11 parking spaces, 5 for vehicles, 6 for pedestrians. Also, in the main tunnel, civil works are being worked on, which means the main water collector, drainage pipes, technical shafts, the lighting and ventilation system", said Halimi.

He added that work is being done at a very high pace to open the tunnel in June for tourists.

"For the realization of this work, 300 workers and 100 machines are engaged. "We are working at a high pace so that the tunnel will be accessible to tourists in June," said Halimi.

Both tunnels have a total length of 6 kilometers, where 98% of the excavations have been completed so far, 96% of the concrete covering and at the end of the month the asphalting road of the Llogara tunnel will open.

The investment for this infrastructural work reached the value of 140 million Euros. This tunnel, together with the Vlora airport, aims to give another breath to the economy of the area and facilitate the access of travelers to the South of Albania./ CNA
