Justice Minister Ulsi Manja met with the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice, Alex Chalk.

During the meeting, they formalized the beginning of the implementation of the agreement for the transfer of convicted Albanian citizens from Great Britain to Albania.

The main purpose of the agreement is the social rehabilitation of Albanian convicts in Britain, creating the possibility for them to serve the remainder of their sentence in their homeland, near their mothers, children, wives and families.

The agreement will have 0 financial cost for the Albanian state, as the British side covers the expenses for every day that the convicts will suffer in our prisons.

The Ministry of Justice and the General Directorate of Prisons will benefit from logistical support and grants, which will be invested in strengthening the capacities in our penitentiary system.

In the transfer process, priority will be given to those who give their consent to return, except in cases where the decisions of the British court foresee their deportation from the United Kingdom./ CNA
