Interior Minister Besfort Lamallari responded to analyst Mentor Kikia regarding the published video showing two civilians detaining a person.

According to Lamallari, in fulfilling their functional duties and in implementing the law, Criminal Police officers have the right to keep under surveillance persons suspected of involvement in or support for violent acts during gatherings, as well as, at appropriate operational moments, to escort them for further procedural actions.

Through a long post on social media, the minister said that people who have used violence against police officers have been identified.

Regarding the published video, he underlines that, in the first moments of the intervention, the police officers introduced themselves to the escorted person as Criminal Police agents.

He emphasizes that Police officers acted in accordance with standard work procedures and protocols for managing and ensuring order and security during gatherings.

Relativizing violence is one of the ugliest forms of inciting it!

Within the same day, you minimized a flagrant act of violence against a police officer, visibly bleeding after being hit in the head by violent individuals who cannot be justified in any way in the name of the costs of a protest. Even worse, when attention and responsibility are immediately shifted to the lack of protective equipment or the responsibility of superiors. This is neither more nor less than blaming the 'victim'!

Having said the above, driven solely by the moral and legal obligation to clarify public opinion regarding the smoke of 'terror' raised by you through the video you shared, I clarify that:

The people accompanying the citizen shown in the published video are State Police employees, working as Criminal Police agents at one of the Police Stations under the Tirana Local Police Directorate.

From the analysis of the administered video footage, individuals have been identified who, during the protest, have hit State Police officers who were on duty with hard objects. As a result of these attacks, 6 police officers have been injured, 3 of whom have suffered more serious physical injuries.

In fulfilling their functional duties and in accordance with the law, Criminal Police officers have the right to keep under surveillance persons suspected of involvement in or support for violent acts during gatherings, as well as, at appropriate operational moments, to escort them for further procedural actions.

Police officers, in the first moments of the intervention, introduced themselves to the escorted person as Criminal Police agents.

The State Police is committed to fulfilling legal obligations and exercises its activities only within the framework defined by law.

The allegations of an exercise in "terror", presented in the published video, do not hold up.
