Sokol Sadushi, strong call/ To react to threats against judges

The vice-president of the Supreme Court, in the function of the president, Sokol Sadushi, made a strong call on the morning of this Monday.

He mentioned the threats made to judges and prosecutors because of the function.

Sadushi asked for a reaction to these attacks and threats, which he said are unjust.

"It is required to react coherently to unjust, numerous and continuous attacks, even threats made to judges because of their function, etc.," he said, among other things.

Sadushi made this statement during his speech at the meeting of the Supreme Judicial Council, where 3 judges will be elected who will be members of the Supreme Judicial Council for 5 years.

Today, after 5 years of operation of the High Judicial Council and on the eve of the end of the first mandate, we are facing a situation when someone asks the question, Was this reformation worth it? Did we manage to have a body that makes a difference to its predecessor?

Undoubtedly, it was worth it for many reasons, but both the critics of the justice reform and its supporters ask these questions or different reactions, when they highlight facts such as:

- there are still judges in the system, who have no professional ethical evaluation, although they have more than a decade in office;

- The 40 magistrates who graduated this year have not yet been appointed, while the system urgently needs them;

- the chancellors of the courts are unconfirmed, due to the non-closure of the professional evaluation procedure at the School of Magistrates;

- the courts have difficulties in managing the budget, due to the concept that every expenditure must be approved by the Supreme Judicial Council, while one of the columns of the independent judiciary is related to the self-administration of the budget;

- the judicial body is concerned about the violation of the standards of promotion and promotion based on merit, due to the possibility of an unequal treatment in scoring and ranking, referring to the unlimited discretion of the member of the Council;

- an efficient communication platform is missing, in which the daily concerns of the judiciary are addressed in real time and which receive solutions from the Council, without channeling them into bureaucratic procedures;

- it is required to react coherently to unjust, numerous and continuous attacks, even threats made to judges because of their function, etc., etc.

These needs and concerns, or even others similar to them, will be faced by the Supreme Judicial Council and especially the young members, from whom solutions are expected./ CNA
