Corruption investigations are added/ 261 criminal proceedings in 2022

During the past year, investigations into corruption increased. In the analysis of the general prosecution, it turns out that 36% of the defendants are part of the state administration.

The General Prosecutor's Office, in the report submitted to the Assembly, says that during the past year, corruption investigations increased by 2.6 times. Out of 100 criminal proceedings registered in 2021, in 2022 261 files for criminal acts of corruption were investigated. The report of the institution directed by Olsian Çela states that the number of proceedings sent to the court has also increased by 3 times.

36% of the defendants are part of the state administration, while the rest are in the private sector and unemployed. The largest volume of corruption files in 2021 was the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana, followed by that of Durrës and Shkodra, while in Gjirokastër, Dibër, Krujë, Kukës, Tropoja and Lezhë no corruption investigation was registered.

In the prosecution's analysis, in 80% of the cases, it turns out that the measure of arrest with prison was requested, while only 2% of the defendants are women./ Euronews Albania
