The American Embassy in Tirana, through a post on social networks, commemorated the fall of communism 32 years ago.

Through a message addressed to today's youth, that they are continuing to shape the future of the country and that the United States stands side by side with the Albanian people as the next step of the democratic journey towards membership in the European Union is taken.

"Today, Albania marks the National Youth Day. Only 32 years ago, Albanian students and young people protested against one of the most cruel communist regimes in Europe, starting its downfall and becoming the protagonists of a very important moment in the history of Albania. On December 8, we honor the courage of those students who demanded political change and democracy for their country. Young people today continue to shape the future of the country and the United States stands side by side with the Albanian people as you take the next step in your democratic journey towards membership in the European Union," the US embassy writes. /CNA.al
