The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, has revealed the reasons for the selection of Albania to hold one of the most historic events of the EU-Western Balkans summit.

In a direct connection with the journalist Blendi Fevziu, Xhaçka said that one of the reasons why the European leaders chose Albania is the fact that, in addition to the role that Albania has in foreign policy, the EU conveyed the message of a new approach to the countries of the region and a reaffirmation of EU engagement in it.

“Padiskutim që nuk ka qenë një përzgjedhje rastësore do të thosha më të paktën. Por më lejo që ta them duke thënë që e djeshmja ishte padiskutim një ditë historike për Shqipërinë dhe shqiptarët duke qenë që 27 liderët e BE dhe vendeve anëtare zgjodhën Shqipërinë për të parin samit që është në një vend jo anëtar.

E zgjodhën edhe për atë që përfaqëson Shqipëria sot në politikën e jashtme, edhe për faktin që Shqipëria është që është një faktor stabiliteti në rajonin e Ballkanit Perëndimor, edhe për rolin konstruktiv që luajnë shqiptarët jo vetëm në Shqipëri, por edhe në rajon. Përzgjedhja nuk ishte rastësore dhe këtë u kujdesën që ta thonin edhe liderët e vendeve anëtare, edhe presidenti i Këshillit, edhe presidentja e Komisionit.
