Marathon hearing on the "Metalurgjiku" case/ Elbasan Court sets

The Elbasan Court has today imposed personal security measures with "Compulsory appearance" for the 16 people detained from the "Metalurgjiku" police operation.

The decision made this Tuesday comes after a session that lasted for hours.

"Regarding the security measures with the object of "Validation of detention in flagrante delicto, assignment of security measure. The prosecutor in the case requested in the session the assignment of the security measure "Compulsory appearance" for 15 of the detainees and for one of the detainees the assignment of the security measure "Compulsory appearance and prohibition of leaving the country". The court at the end of the trial decided: "The illegal validation of the detention in flagrante delicto for the 16 detained persons and the personal security measure "Compulsory appearance" for the 16 detained persons", the announcement states. 

Operation "Metallurgical", finalized last weekend by the Elbasan Local Police Directorate, was developed after a several-month investigation using special methods and under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, as part of an action against environmental crimes.

Investigations into the case focus on illegal industrial activity in the former Metalurgjiku area in Bradashesh, where it is suspected that ongoing pollution has directly endangered the environment and the health of the area's residents./CNA
