The Council of the European Union has published its position on Albania.

Brussels, in the report published on December 16, 2025, underlines the importance of the independence of the judiciary, including SPAK, and of further strengthening the justice system against internal and external interference.

“The Council underlines the importance of the independence of the judiciary, including the Specialized Structure for Anti-Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK), and of further strengthening the resilience of the justice system against internal or external interference. The Council also recalls the importance of Albania ensuring effective judicial protection and consistent enforcement of judicial decisions,” the report states.

It is further emphasized that the Council welcomed the progress that Albania has made in the fight against organized crime and corruption.
