Canada and Albania have signed a historic air transport agreement, which will enable direct flights between the two countries for the first time.
This agreement constitutes a major step forward in strengthening bilateral relations, creating new opportunities for trade ties, travel and cultural exchanges.
Canada's Minister of Transport and Leader of the Government in the House of Commons, Steven MacKinnon, announced the agreement on December 16, emphasizing its importance to both nations.
“We are pleased to have finalized this new air transport agreement with the Republic of Albania, one of the fastest growing economies in Europe. By enabling direct flights between our two countries for the first time, this agreement creates new opportunities for our airlines, strengthens people-to-people connections and further enhances Canada’s global connectivity.”
This agreement paves the way for several airlines to operate scheduled flights between Canada and Albania, with up to 14 passenger flights per week and 10 cargo flights per week to each country. The airlines will also have access to any point within the territory of each country.
Direct flights will not only make travel more convenient, but will also foster economic cooperation. Albanian businesses will have better access to the Canadian market, while Canadian companies will have more opportunities to identify new prospects in the Southeastern European region.
Minister of International Trade, Maninder Sidhu, emphasized the importance of this agreement for Canada-Albania relations.
“The Air Transport Agreement between Canada and Albania marks an important milestone in strengthening our bilateral relationship. This agreement will improve air connectivity, create new opportunities for tourism, and strengthen people-to-people connections, advancing Canada’s trade diversification goals. For Canada, it will help our businesses access a growing market in Southeast Europe and support our exporters in reaching new customers abroad. This partnership reflects our continued commitment to expanding international trade and building strong, mutually beneficial relationships around the world.”
This agreement reflects a shared commitment to building strong and mutually beneficial relationships. Canada is home to a vibrant Albanian community, which will now be more connected than ever to its roots. For Canadians, Albania's rich culture, stunning landscapes and growing economy will become more accessible, boosting tourism and investment./ Monitor
