Since the vacancy opened on October 13, former Democratic Party MP Dashnor Sula has also been in the running to take over the position of Ombudsman.

Recently, it is lawyer Saimir Vishaj who has formalized his candidacy.

Saimir Vishaj completed his Law studies in 1996 at the Faculty of Law at the University of Tirana.

With extensive experience in the field of law, Vishaj headed the Chamber of Criminal Lawyers from 2009 to September 2025.

The lawyer is a strong public voice with positions on various issues related to justice, the judiciary, social issues and more. Public interest dominates in every one of his appearances, even when faced with the hottest current affairs and politics.

Vishaj has been the lawyer in some of the most sensational cases, such as that of "Lazarati" or the author of the murder of women, Dan Hutra.

A short time ago, the lawyer also challenged the serious illness after many months in intubation.

After treatment in Italy, Vishaj returned to Albania and in one of his statements declared: "I secretly left the hospital because I have to work."

Currently, the position of Ombudsman is held by Erinda Ballanca, whose mandate ends in 2022. Ballanca was elected in 2017 and was a proposal of the opposition at the time.

The mandate of the People's Advocate is 5 years./ CNA
