The number of trips by Albanians increases significantly in 2024

In 2024, Albanians traveled more than ever before, with over 4.4 million trips taken domestically and abroad by individuals over 15 years of age.

The vast majority of these trips – a full 97.9% – were made for personal purposes, while only 2.1% were for business reasons.

Travel abroad has increased significantly by 43.4% compared to 2023, reflecting a significant increase in demand for tourism and international mobility. Albania continues to remain a preferred destination, especially for holidays and leisure, which constitute the main purpose of travel both domestically and internationally.

The use of hotel accommodation and the increase in air flights have also increased, indicating an increasing orientation towards structured and international tourism.

Domestically, the main preference is Tirana, followed by Vlora, and abroad, Italy, followed by Greece.

According to Instat in 2024, the number of trips for personal or business purposes (within or outside Albania), made by individuals residing in Albania over the age of 15, was 4,426,074.

Travel for personal purposes accounts for 97.9% of total trips, while travel for business purposes accounts for 2.1%.

The highest concentrations of trips made were recorded in the months:

August 13.9%;
December 13.7%;
July 11.5%;
June 9.4%.
In Albania, 3.0 million trips for personal purposes were recorded, while 0.05 million for business purposes.

"Vacation and leisure" constitutes the main purpose of trips made both in Albania (54.1%) and abroad (47.2%).

Trips taken outside Albania have marked a significant increase of 43.4 percent, compared to 2023.

In 2024, “Hotel” accommodation marks an increase of about 8.4 percentage points, compared to trips made in 2023. The highest increase is recorded in air transport with about 8.8 percentage points. The average number of nights of stay for trips made (in Albania and abroad) is 4.2 nights.

The highest values ??of the amount of nights spent (in millions) were recorded in the months of August, July, December and June.

In 2024, trips made within and outside Albania for "Vacation and leisure" account for the largest share, followed by trips made outside Albania for the purpose of "Visit to relatives and friends".

Travel by destination In 2024, the most preferred destinations for personal or business travel in Albania are the regions: Tirana (15.4%), Vlorë (12.3%), Korçë (10.9%), Durrës (8.6%) and abroad: Italy (8.6%), Greece (7.4%), Germany (3.8%) and other countries (England, France, etc.) (3.0%)./ Monitor.al
