Electoral reform/ Gonzato: We have high expectations for the work of the special

The European Union Ambassador to Albania, Silvio Gonzato, participated today in the roundtable organized with the Central Election Commission. Gonzato spoke about electoral reform, emphasizing that inclusive political participation is essential for a modern democracy.

He said that the work of the special parliamentary committee also plays a key role in achieving proper electoral reform. Gonzato said that the EU's expectations for the work of this committee are very high, and said that it will have the support of the delegation in achieving a comprehensive reform in accordance with the OSCE/ODIHR recommendations.

“ Reforms should enable every citizen to participate in free elections. Inclusive political participation is essential for a modern democracy. Civil society plays a crucial role in this regard. But key to all of this is the work of the electoral reform commission. Our expectations for the work of this commission are very high. This commission should look beyond processes that may be purely and not only strictly electoral, but should also work with other commissions to draft policies and reforms in related areas. All this with the aim of creating an overall environment that truly guarantees equality in elections. The EU Delegation to Albania looks forward to cooperating with the commission and supporting it in achieving a comprehensive reform in line with the OSCE/ODIHR recommendations, a comprehensive reform for which we have been calling for a long time ,” said Gonzato. /CNA
