Journalist Lutfi Dervishi commented today on the tense situation between the government and justice institutions.

Invited to A2 CNN, Dervishi said that recent movements show an attempt to expand power.

According to Dervishi, a governance standard should be established for cases related to politicians and court decisions, as he said that the concept of immunity should not be used as a shield against justice.

"Reactions to court decisions show that the executive is attempting to expand power beyond constitutional limits. The courts and the prosecution have never shown ambition to interfere in the governance of the country; on the contrary, they were established precisely to keep people in power under control. As for the Special Court, its decisions are accepted without comment when they affect the opposition or dismissed officials, but are opposed as soon as current government officials are affected. The concept of immunity cannot be used as a shield for administrative actions, as those in power bear direct responsibility for their decisions. You cannot demand that you not resign in the face of a concrete accusation and still remain a minister. This is not a standard of governance," Dervishi said. /CNA
