The rare surgical intervention was successfully performed with the specialized doctors of the University Hospital Center in Tirana.

For the first time, surgery was performed on the carotid artery in the neck of a 60-year-old woman, where a new non-invasive device was used to measure brain oxygenation. This is a technological innovation not previously used by white shirts in the country.

The operation was demonstrated "live" on the CNA screen through the International Conference of the Albanian Anesthesia-Reanimation Association, which was directed by Prof. Asc. Saimir Kuçi.

Everything was a collaboration of the Vascular Surgery Service and the Anesthesia-Reanimation Service at QSUT.

"The database exists and our service does it for both pathologies, both for carotid stenoses and for abdominal aortic aneurysms. In the last 6 years, we have greatly increased the number of treatments for these two pathologies due to the increase in the level professional of the whole team, but at the same time enabling the equipment of specific devices, because without them it is impossible to have positive results. For this operation we had a collaboration with the carotid echo check-up", said one of the doctors who participated in the room, Sokol Xhepa.

The carotid arteries are the two main arteries that supply the brain with blood. They are located on both sides of the neck. Carotid artery stenosis is the narrowing of this artery by arteriosclerotic plaques.

People over 60 years of age, individuals with arterial hypertension, those with high cholesterol, as well as diabetics and patients with coronary artery disease are usually affected by these health problems. /CNA
