At the presentation of the 2024 Matura Public Report, which noted the highest pass rate in recent years and an increase in the average annual grade of the State Matura, the Minister of Education and Sports also spoke about the plan of measures for the PISA 2025 test, which aims to increase student performance.

The Ministry of Education and Sports and the Center for Educational Services presented today the detailed report on the State Matura 2024, attended by representatives of educational institutions, school principals and State Matura coordinators from the Local Offices of Pre-university Education, Regional Directorates, the National Agency for Pre-university Education and the Agency for Quality Assurance in Pre-university Education.

The Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu, said that this report provides an in-depth analysis of the results and progress of the Matura process, assessing not only the performance of students, but also the quality of teaching and learning on a national scale.

The Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu, emphasized that the 2024 State Matura is considered a positive process in all aspects, from its administration to transparency and meritocracy.

"Around 27 thousand students from public and non-public high schools participated in the State Matura with a passing rate of 99.42%, which is actually a higher passing rate than the previous year, and in the trend of several years, it is the highest in this 5-year period," said Manastirliu.

Conducting a more detailed analysis of the annual average grade and the 2024 State Matura, Minister Manastirliu said that there is significant progress in the achievements of high school graduates.

"The Average Annual State Matura Grade 2024 has increased compared to the previous year. It is estimated at 7.58, compared to 2023, where the average annual State Matura grade was 7.3.

While the average grade of the 2024 Matura exams remains almost at the same levels compared to the 2023 Matura. It is estimated that there is an increase in the annual State Matura grade in Mathematics compared to 2023 from 6.72, which is the estimated average annual grade in Mathematics this year, so in 2024, when this analysis was done, it results in 7.79. An increase has also been noted in the average grade of the State Matura exam in Mathematics this year, compared to a year ago," declared the Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manstirliu.

The Minister also shared some important data about schools and educational offices that have a better result than the average grade at the national level.

"Regarding the Average State Matura Grade for the subject Albanian Language and Literature, there are 18 local education offices that have a national average higher than 7.23 and these include: Tirana, Shkodra, Elbasan, Fieri, Vlora, Korça, Berati, Lushnja, Pogradec, Mati, Devolli, Mallakastër, Përmet, Këlcyra, Has, Rrogozhinë, Kolonjë and Puka, Fushë Arrëz. Regarding Mathematics, the national average State Matura grade is 6.8 and there are 21 local education offices that have an average above 6.8 including: Tirana, Elbasan, Vlorë, Korça, Berat, Lushnja, Lezhë, Krujë, Kukës, Vorë, Mat, Roskovec, Devoll, Mirditë, Tropojë, Përmet, Peqin, Pukë, Poliçan, Has and Finiq.

"It is a panorama of the great work being done by our education structures, that is, our teachers, and it is very clear that the connection between teaching and learning in big cities, but also in smaller cities, is going in the same trend," said the Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu, adding that there will be a specific plan of measures for other schools whose average is lower than that at the national level, a targeted plan to support teachers through training on the most effective teaching methods, to support students with extracurricular courses with subject teachers, thus creating models that further support student achievements and increase school performance.

Speaking about the 1-year plan of measures for PISA 2025, Minister Manastirliu said:

"I believe that the plan of measures we have undertaken will give us an improved result in terms of the assessments that PISA 2025 will carry out, and in this regard, I would like to mention that during this year, more than 3,000 teachers of reading, mathematics, and science subjects have been trained. About 600 students from 32 schools were included in the test. On the other hand, the preparation of the paper-based test for teachers has been carried out, data has been collected and administered, and a database has also been prepared for the schools participating in PISA 2025, and we expect to carry out testing of the implementation of simulated questions by students in all three areas. Of course, through all this work we have done, we aim not simply to increase the performance and results of this assessment, but above all we aim to increase standards, to increase the level of teaching and learning in our education system", said Manastirliu, underlining that in another international assessment of student achievements in grade 4, TIMS 2024, Albania for the first time ranked above the international average in mathematics and on the list of 14 countries with increasing results in this subject, and also on the list of 15 countries with increasing results in science./ CNA
