Seasonal viruses/ Tepelëna Hospital suffers from overload

Tepelena Hospital has been facing an overload of seasonal viruses in recent days. Around 30 cases are treated per day by this hospital, which in fact, since January 2024, has been converted into a care center where the chronically ill and the elderly are mostly treated, excluding hospitalizations.

General practitioner Shahin Meçe tells "CNA" that the flu that has been circulating in recent days has affected young age groups, accompanied by fever and headaches, and in some cases complications also appear.

"A flu has been circulating in recent days that mainly affects young people but also others and is accompanied by high fever, headache, muscle pain and lasts two to three days, but in some cases there are also complications as it affects the respiratory tract where there have been cases of bronchopneumonia or pleurisy.

"About 20-30 cases present to us in the hospital emergency room and are treated on an outpatient basis, but there have also been cases where they have been hospitalized," the doctor told CNA.

With only three doctors available, the Tepelena hospital refers serious cases to the Gjirokastra and Fier hospitals, thus suffering somewhat from the increased cases in recent days from seasonal viruses. /CNA
