Injured by fighting in Gaza, 1-year-old child brought to Albania for treatment

The World Health Organization in Albania announced that on Wednesday evening a one-year-old child was transported to our country to receive appropriate medical treatment.

The child arrived from Gaza and is currently under the care of doctors at the Mother Teresa University Hospital. The one-year-old's family, consisting of his father, brother and sister, are accommodated in the refugee center in Babrru.

"Last evening, a medical evacuation was carried out to provide critical care in Albania for a 1-year-old child from Gaza. The child is currently receiving medical care at the "Mother Teresa" University Hospital, while the father, brother and sister are accommodated in the refugee center in Babrru, Tirana.

A big thank you to Prime Minister Edi Rama and the Government of Albania for facilitating this humanitarian effort. Acknowledgements to Albana Koçiu, Minister of Health and Social Protection, Skënder Brataj, Head of the National Emergency Medical Center, Haki Çako, Director General of the National Civil Protection Agency, and officials from the Ministry of Interior, for their essential contributions. WHO together with partners supports the coordination and strengthening of a standard, transparent mechanism for medical evacuations.

Gazmend Bejtja, WHO Officer-in-Charge in Albania, was also present at the airport, along with other officials, to welcome the family.

"Albania's commitment to supporting those in need is an important example of solidarity. As many patients from Gaza still require urgent medical care, coordinated international efforts remain crucial," the WHO Albania statement read. /CNA
