Dam burst in Bunec/ Businesses damaged, road flooded

The dam burst in Bunec has caused major damage. Currently, the Lukovë-Bunec national road is only accessible to heavy vehicles. The causes of the HPP burst are still unclear. The water supply to the canal has been cut off by the dam at the source of the Kalasë River.

It is learned that there was also extensive material damage from the dam breach. Water entered 2 bar-restaurant businesses in Bunec, while 10 other businesses suffered damage from the flooding.

Earlier, the police announced:

"Today, at around 12:38, in Bunec, Lukovë, it is suspected that the hydroelectric dam has broken, creating a risk of flooding.

Police and civil emergency services are at the scene, working to ensure the evacuation of any person who may be in danger. So far, only material damage has been caused, while the situation is being closely monitored to avoid further consequences. Police invite citizens to avoid movement in the endangered area and to immediately report any emergency."
