Rama "burned" as a minister/ Spiropali remains empty-handed: Positions

Prime Minister Edi Rama a day ago fired Elisa Spiropali from her position as Foreign Minister, leaving her empty-handed.

Her job was passed on to Ferit Hoxha, a name in her career. After her dismissal, Elisa Spiropali reacted through a status on social networks, where she spoke a lot about herself but did not deign to congratulate her colleague Ferit Hoxha on his job.

It seems clear that although she states that decisions are political and positions are temporary, the finger-pointing from her "Skënderbeg" did not please her at all.

"Yesterday a task ended, but not a journey. In public life, functions end with a decision, while responsibility continues with conscience."

Politics is a territory where time moves fast, but memory moves slowly. In the end, what remains is not the position you held, but the way you held it and what weight you gave to your word and your stance.

Service to Albania for me has been and is inextricably linked to love for Albania, a conscious choice and not a career accident, an act of faith that our country can and must stand on the right side of history, just as in its key moments Albania has known how to choose a Western orientation, even when this choice has been difficult. From the time when the Renaissance people sought light in Europe, to the historic decision for NATO membership and the path towards the European Union, our national project has always been a project to become part of the political civilization that built the rule of law, institutional and human dignity.

In this sense, my duty as Foreign Minister was not simply a function, but a continuation of a historical narrative that sees Albania as an inseparable part of the political West.

I am grateful to the Socialist Party and the Prime Minister for the trust they have given me over the years, because gratitude is a political culture and not personal submission.

We have built together a model that has moved Albania from the psychology of transition towards European normality, choosing reform when it was easier to compromise with mediocrity and choosing responsibility when populism offered quick applause. This model is not perfect, but it is clear in orientation and determined in purpose.

I have believed and continue to believe that politics is not about possession or ownership, but temporary guardianship. Institutions are bigger than individuals, but it is individuals who give them spirit, tone and character. In every function that has been entrusted to me, as a deputy, Speaker of the Parliament and Minister, I have chosen to be a voice with conviction and not a weightless echo, because the dignity of the state is protected not only by agreements and documents, but by the stance it takes when representing its flag in front of others. In political Europe, from De Gasperi to Schuman, the model that remained was that of the statesman who builds on principles and not on short-term calculations, and this remains for me the ideal standard of public service.

Political decisions are part of a broader vision and as such are respected, but the personal history of each of us is not measured by the duration of a mandate, nor by temporary political power, but by the mark it leaves on the political and moral culture of the country. In history, the figures that remain are not those who hold power the longest, but those who never relativize character, because dignity is not a ceremonial decoration, but stability in the face of time and the ability to be afraid of neither the past nor the future.

To the socialists, I always owe loyalty to ideals and not to convenience, because the European left that we have aimed to build in Albania is not rhetoric, but an effort for social justice, a functional state and irreversible integration into the European Union. These are compasses that do not change with circumstances and do not fade with the rotation of duties.

The strength of a political project is measured by the ability to produce models that stand even when circumstances change, because models are not overthrown by decrees, they are tested by time.

Albania is more important than any role and the Party is more important than any individual, but personal dignity remains the foundation on which any honest and sustainable public service is built. In this sense, for me, the completion of a task is not a retreat, but a continuation of the commitment with the same conviction and the same responsibility.

Your more numerous messages upon leaving, than upon taking office, reinforce my obligation and determination to give more.

"Because positions are transitory, while the footprint is a conscious choice," writes Spiropali./ CNA
