The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has stated that without Prime Minister Edi Rama leaving power, Albania cannot take steps forward in the process of membership in the European Union.

In a press conference given this Friday, Berisha stated that the number of countries opposing IBAR is constantly increasing, expressing their dissatisfaction with the progress Albania has made in the fight against corruption and organized crime.

"IBAR for Montenegro was voted unanimously. Secondly, there was absolutely no vote for Albania. There was no vote and according to that announcement, there are not one, but several countries that have refused to vote for IBAR which is approved unanimously, there are several countries. It is absolutely untrue that it was voted. But these people have one thing, they have chosen deception for all problems. And according to the EU spokesperson, no chapter can be closed without a unanimous vote for IBAR. IBAR is intermediate. This vote that is being held for IBARI is intermediate, but without this decision, no chapter is closed ," Berisha said.

Democratic leader Berisha, in response to a question about internal dismissals in the DP, said that members can complain if there has been an unfair dismissal, while emphasizing that those who have worked with opponents have no place in the Democratic Party.

"Anyone who is expelled has the right to appeal, but anyone who has worked with the opponent has no place in the DP ," he said.

Berisha called on citizens to join the April 17 protest as an opportunity to remove Prime Minister Edi Rama and his cabinet from power.   /CNA
