Floods in Durrës/Rama: Trash and plastic bottles block the canals

Prime Minister Edi Rama has reacted to the floods caused in Durrës by heavy rainfall, emphasizing pollution and waste disposal as one of the main causes of the situation.

According to Rama, throwing garbage and plastic bottles in fields and on the sides of roads causes them to accumulate and block drainage channels during heavy rains.

 He stressed that, in cases of ordinary rain, the waste ends up in the sea, but when the rainfall is very heavy, like those of recent days, the mouths of the canals are completely blocked, causing widespread flooding.

The Prime Minister appealed for more civic responsibility towards the environment, underlining that floods are not only related to the intensity of rainfall, but also to people's daily behavior towards public spaces and nature./ CNA
