The special envoy of the USA for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, has warned that there will be new names of businessmen and politicians with power in the Balkans who will enter the black list.

"Let me just say that this administration, the Biden administration, is committed to fighting corruption. Because corruption is so corrosive to societies. We cannot make an announcement about sanctions, but you can be sure that there will be".

Further in his interview, Escobar emphasizes that the USA chooses as partners in the Balkans all the countries that bring the region closer to the EU.

"I wanted to make it clear that the USA chooses as partners in the Balkans those who bring the region closer to Europe, those who show their commitment to NATO and who continue the fight against corruption. This is our expectation," he told the Macedonian medium 360°.

Among other things, the special envoy of the USA for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, has stated that in the entire Balkan region, corruption is a big problem, as he added that there is another reason why the USA will see the European way open to all countries.

"Each country that has entered the EU is more stable, more democratic and more advanced, and at the same time fairer in terms of justice for its citizens. This is another reason why we want to see you on the path to EU membership," he said./ CNA
