In the academic year 2023-2024, for the first time, the number of students per teacher in public schools is lower than in private schools, according to INSTAT data.
In the primary cycle, a teacher in public schools had an average of 15.1 students, while in the private sector, 15.2 students. In secondary education, on average, one teacher in public schools had 11.6 students, while in private schools, 9.1 students.
However, this reduction in the number of students per teacher has not brought better teaching achievements, as expected.
In fact, the analysis shows that private schools, with a lower number of students in the class, had poor results in learning achievement. This is the opposite of what is expected.
Because of this situation, parents have started to prefer public schools over private ones, while they used to prefer the opposite.
The change is related to the fact that classrooms in public schools have been overcrowded for a long time./ CNA
