Carnival begins in Gjirokastra/ Festivities and activities in the stone city

Carnivals will be the highlight of this weekend in Gjirokastra.

The stone city, which enjoyed the festive atmosphere, the colors of children's costumes and various masks, gathered visitors from all over Albania in the city's museum area.

Around 600 students from 8 schools in the city and kindergarten children paraded in colorful costumes through the city's cobblestone streets. The children were the ones who enjoyed this celebration the most.

The event that started today will be accompanied by various activities, including the Gjirokaster culinary tradition, live music evenings, and various concerts in Çerçiz Square.

The Mayor of Gjirokastra, Flamur Golemi, present at the big event, said that this is a celebration that brings together children, citizens and numerous tourists with a calendar of activities.

"We in Gjirokastra call it "prosopulla". Around the 1920s and 1930s, carnivals were celebrated in Korça and Shkodra, and of course in Gjirokastra. It is a calendar of activities of the Gjirokastra Municipality to celebrate, for children, citizens and tourists. We are waiting for you in Gjirokastra", said Golemi.
