Almost 1.6 million euros is the fund allocated by the World Bank for the construction of the new bridge near the natural park of Viroi in Gjirokastër.

The engineer of ARRSH Southern Region, Aristotel Noni, says that this project will put an end to a series of problems, the most prominent of which over the years has been the flooding of this national segment as a result of high flows of lake water from the source of Mothers where in not a few cases the vehicles are blocked for hours all in a row.

The project has started to be implemented, while it is expected to be completed within a time frame of 6 months.

"First, this project solves the problem of road safety with geometric parameters that have been very unfavorable.

Second, it solves the problem of flooding in this area with the help of this project, the road has an elevation of about one meter and twenty, so the problem of flooding is finally solved.

Thirdly, this road segment passes through the tourist point of Viroi, which is visited by many local and foreign tourists, but in the current state there is no pedestrian access.

With this project, the road deviates 30 meters from the existing road, giving a solution to the accessibility of pedestrians from both sides of the lake", Noni asserted.

The new bridge will have a length of 500 meters, while two other connecting bridges will be built in parallel, which will serve citizens to cross from one side of the park to the other, while special importance will be given to them and road safety parameters, where the current ones are considered too problematic.
