Agreement with Britain for immigrants/ 1000 Albanians return to their homeland

The British Embassy in Tirana has announced that since the signing of the Joint Communiqué between Albania and Great Britain, 1000 Albanians have returned to their homeland.

This number includes citizens who cannot receive asylum, law breakers as well as those who have returned voluntarily since signing the Communiqué.

" Following the Joint Communiqué between the Prime Ministers of Albania and the United Kingdom to address illegal immigration, law enforcement agencies in both countries have intensified their work, especially regarding the passage of small boats in the English Channel.

British and Albanian authorities have worked together to prevent illegal immigrants from entering and staying in the UK. Since the signing of the communique, the new figures show that over 1000 Albanian citizens have returned to Albania.

These data include citizens who cannot receive asylum, law breakers as well as those who returned voluntarily from the signing of the Joint Communiqué on December 13 to the first week of April.

The British and Albanian operational teams have set up a Joint Immigration Task Force, which serves as the focal point to coordinate measures and special operational actions in the management of illegal immigration of Albanian nationals to the United Kingdom.

To increase operational cooperation in reducing the number of Albanian nationals traveling through dangerous and illegal routes to the United Kingdom, the British Government is supporting projects in Albania that help improve social and economic conditions in areas where the level of immigration is high . The "New Perspectives for Kukës" project, made public last summer, has started work together with the Albanian Government and other partners ," the announcement reads./CNA.al
