The Assembly has started the procedures for the election of the new People's Advocate.

Acting lawyer Erinda Ballanca has completed her full 5-year term since May this year. But the latter, seeks to get another term, after being pushed one of the names in the race.

According to the law, any Albanian who knows the law, who is not criminally convicted and is not a member of the Assembly, can run for ombudsman.

They are initially questioned in hearings by the law commission, which verifies the fulfillment of the criteria for candidacy.

At the end of the hearings, the Commission approves a list of candidates and their respective evaluations.

Those who meet the legal criteria must also receive the support of at least 28 deputies to be officially a candidate for the People's Advocate.

Parliament elects the winner by 84 votes in plenary.
