Archbishop Joan to 'Vatican News': Church must be forward-looking when

The Archbishop of Tirana, Durrës and All Albania, His Beatitude, Monsignor Joani, told "VaticanNews" today that the Church must be careful, wise and far-sighted when assessing the impact of technology on human life.

In his message to Vatican media, Archbishop Joan said that the Church must sanctify the way we approach technology, so that technology can benefit humanity and not be a danger to it.

 "The church must have wise eyes to see what good there is in technology and to warn people about its dangers. The problem is not the technology, but how we use it."

The question to ask is whether we can control it and whether it can be to our advantage, not just for profit, but can technology be an advantage for our spiritual life?

We must sanctify the way we approach technology, so that technology can benefit humanity and not be a danger to it. The Albanian Orthodox Church can rely on a strong involvement of young people, at a time when people are searching for meaning, more than ever, the Church must answer their questions.

"Welcoming them, offering them love, understanding and always remembering that we are not a court. We are a hospital and we should not judge them, but help them," said the Archbishop.

The Archbishop shared his message after participating in the international conference on the theme: “Orthodox Theology and the Ontology of Technology: Anthropological, Political, Economic, Social and Cultural Consequences” held in Thessaloniki. /CNA
