Joana Duro, the former secretary of the Ministry of Health, was sentenced to 4 years in prison. The decision was given by the Special Court which sentenced Duro to 4 years in prison, from which 1/3 of the sentence will be reduced and the former official will serve the sentence for 2 years and 8 months.

Journalist Klodiana Lala has reported that in addition to the prison sentence, Duro was also given an additional sentence, which does not allow him to exercise any public function for 5 years.

Meanwhile, Laura Shteto, Valdimit Topi and Silvi Shehi were each sentenced to 1 year in prison, while due to the shortened trial, they were sentenced to a total of 8 months.

Joana Duro is accused of passive corruption. According to SPAK, Topi and Shehi gave Laura Shteto 330,000 lek to win the tender for the supervision of several health centers in Tirana and Durrës.

The affair was discovered in June of this year, just one day after the winner of the tender was announced./ CNA
