The Director General of the State Police, Skënder Hita, has issued a press statement regarding the operation conducted this morning in Lozana to capture the much-wanted Violand Braçellari, where officer Enea Mekolli lost his life and Edison Adri was injured.

Hita stated that 40 police forces were engaged in the operation, adding that all were equipped with bulletproof vests, but added that the firearm used, a Kalashnikov, tore through Mekolli's vest.

Among other things, he stated that the killing of the officer is a loss not only for the family but for the entire State Police. He further announced that all procedures are being carried out for the killed officer to receive martyr status.

"Police officers are trained and educated according to the laws. They were the most specialized services, the Eagles. So these were the structures that were engaged in the operation. 40 police forces were in the operation wearing bulletproof vests. But the weapon used, the Kalashnikov, tore through the vest.

This is an assessment made by the Korça Local Police Directorate itself, which has decided to operate in this way. All wanted persons will receive the same response. The disciplinary investigation and the Prosecution's investigations have begun. This is a deep loss not only for the family but for the entire State Police.
