EU Integration/ Albania towards opening negotiations for the fourth chapter

Today, on June 11, 2025, after having determined that Albania is sufficiently prepared to open negotiations, the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the 27 member states of the European Union authorized the EU Presidency and the Polish Presidency sent a letter to Albania today asking it to present its negotiating position on the four chapters included in Chapter Group 4 "Green Agenda and Sustainable Connectivity".

The negotiating position will be presented to the Sixth Intergovernmental Conference with Albania, which will be organized on a date to be announced soon by the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The chapters of Chapter Group 4 include very important areas for the economy, business, and that directly affect the daily lives of citizens and are a transformation factor for the long-term development of the country.

Chapter 14, which deals with transport policy, aims to improve road and rail infrastructure and safety;

Chapter 15 relates to the energy sector and ensuring a sustainable and affordable energy supply;

Chapter 21 focuses on trans-European networks and Albania's infrastructure connectivity with EU countries, as an important part of the European Corridors; while Chapter 27 assesses environmental protection and climate change mitigation, through high EU standards.

Through the negotiations of these chapters, Albania is expected to take concrete steps towards building safer and more modern roads, improving regional and European connectivity, guaranteeing clean and affordable energy supply, and protecting the environment for future generations./ CNA
