The member of the Municipal Council of Tirana, Jonathan Pano, in a statement to the media, has denounced that the Municipality of Tirana has planned to increase the financial burden of citizens for waste management to almost 90,000 euros per day, at a time when the incinerator of Tirana does not exist.
"On the eve of the approval of the budget for 2025, we are witnessing a scandalous situation that requires the attention and reaction of every responsible citizen. Tirana Municipality has planned to increase the financial burden of citizens for waste management to almost 90,000 euros per day, a very high and completely unjustifiable figure. We strongly denounce the fact that these payments continue to be made even though the Tirana incinerator does not exist.
This budget is a direct blow to taxpayers and a testament to the total mismanagement of public resources. Instead of being used for essential services and projects that improve the quality of life, public funds continue to be wasted on non-existent incinerators, opaque contracts, without transparency and without any concrete results for citizens. The streets of Tirana remain full of garbage, pollution continues to worsen and citizens pay more and more for a service that does not exist.
The year we are leaving behind is a clear evidence of the failure of the Municipality. According to the 10-month report, an institution with a budget of over 500 million euros has spent only 190 thousand euros on housing, while the situation is dramatic.
At the same time, 282% of fines were imposed, turning into a repressive mechanism against citizens, not an instrument of improvement.
We strongly condemn every act of abuse, every waste of public funds and every practice of clientelism that burdens the citizens of Tirana. This model of governance, which favors the interests of a handful of people over the public interest, is unacceptable and must end.
The members of the Municipal Council of the Democratic Party are committed to denouncing any abuse and to demand an account for every penny wasted from public funds", declared Pano.
The Democrat said, among other things, that citizens deserve an administration that incinerates waste, and not their money.
"The citizens of Tirana deserve an administration that serves them with honesty, transparency and responsibility, putting the interests of the citizens first. Citizens deserve an administration that incinerates waste, not their money!
The time for change is now. We will not stop until we restore dignity and well-being to our city. Tirana deserves more. Citizens deserve a better future", concluded Pano./ CNA
