The US Embassy in Tirana has published the speech of the American Secretary of State Antony Blinken during the honoring of the anti-corruption champions, where the award as an anti-corruption champion was given to the head of SPAK, Altin Dumani.

In his speech Blinken emphasizes that it is an honor to work alongside champions like Jorge Mora Cortes from Colombia, Matrika Dahal from Nepal, Altin Dumani from Albania, Srbuhi Galyan from Armenia, Carl Irani from Lebanon, Marr Nyang from Gambia, Javier Enrique Caraballo Salazar from Panama, Didar Smagulov from Kazakhstan, Jimmy Spire Ssentongo from Uganda and Sevinj Vagifgizi from Azerbaijan to defeat corruption.

Speech by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken

Corruption erodes democratic governance, undermines trust in government, and impedes development, which is why the State Department promotes integrity, transparency, and accountability as foreign policy priorities and core national security interests. Since the adoption of the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) and ratification by the US, the United States has been a leader in implementing international commitments against corruption.

The United States established the Champions Against Corruption Award in 2021 to recognize individuals who have taken extraordinary steps to fight corruption and to demonstrate US solidarity with these heroic partners.

On International Anti-Corruption Day, we recognize 10 anti-corruption champions who have led or championed reforms and investigations that are bringing about a fairer and more transparent world for their fellow citizens.

We congratulate all those who fight for accountability, rule of law, transparency and freedom of the press. This year's honorees are Jorge Mora Cortes from Colombia, Matrika Dahal from Nepal, Altin Dumani from Albania, Srbuhi Galyan from Armenia, Carl Irani from Lebanon, Marr Nyang from Gambia, Javier Enrique Caraballo Salazar from Panama, Didar Smagulov from Kazakhstan, Jimmy Spire Ssentongo from Uganda and Sevinj Vagifgizi from Azerbaijan.

We are honored to work alongside champions like these to defeat corruption. We will continue to work with partners to fulfill the vision of UNCAC and other international frameworks against corruption and good governance./ CNA
