The Supreme Court rejects the appeal/ Erion Veliaj remains in prison

The High Court has decided to keep the arrested mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, in prison on 13 charges for 5 serious criminal offenses.

The Supreme Court has rejected Veliaj's appeal to replace the security measure of arrest with imprisonment and has left in force decision no. 53 (87_2026_68) dated 24.02.2026 of the Appeals Court of Kosovo.

Official sources from the Supreme Court indicate that the latter decided to keep Veliaj in prison even after the latest decision of the Constitutional Court, where it passed the ball to the Supreme Court on the mayor's request.

The mayor's media said that Veliaj would be released, but the Supreme Court showed its integrity and, based on facts and evidence, decided that Erion Veliaj should remain in prison.

The arrested mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, is under indictment for 5 serious criminal offenses such as corruption, abuse of office, laundering of serious criminal proceeds, concealment of assets, and bringing prohibited items into the cell.

SPAK has compiled a file with 13 charges against Veliaj and sent it to court, where the mayor, like a coward, does not go to face the facts and evidence, but drags out the legal proceedings by using various tactics.

The Supreme Court has now spoken its mind regarding Erion Veliaj, leaving him in prison again.

We recall that the Supreme Court left him in prison in the July 8 session, leaving in effect the measure imposed by the court, that of prison arrest./ CNA
