Road accidents increased in January-April, driver behavior remains a problem

Road accidents marked a slight increase in the first four months of the year, while April data shows that driver behavior remains the main factor behind traffic accidents.

Official data reported by the Institute of Statistics shows that in April 2026, 132 road accidents were recorded, in which 194 people were injured, killed or injured.

During the period January-April 2026, the number of road accidents increased by 0.2% compared to the same period a year earlier.

According to the report, 89.4% of accidents recorded in April occurred as a result of driver behavior.

The 25-34 age group presented the highest number of accidents, accounting for 27.3% of the total cases recorded in this period.

By day of the week, the highest number of accidents was recorded on Wednesday and Friday, with 16.7% each, while the lowest level was recorded on Thursday, with 9.8%.

Meanwhile, the interval 19:00-24:00 resulted in the most problematic period, with 30.3% of total road accidents.

The slight increase in accidents in the first four months of this year marks a turning point after a period of declining accidents.

As a result of a series of serious events in the country, changes have been proposed to tighten measures in the Highway Code./ Monitor
