The vice-president of the European Commission, Margaritis Schinas, is committed to the issue of the elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Belerit, who is currently in prison.

According to some Greek media, Schinas has sent a letter to the Commissioner for EU Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, regarding this issue.

It is reported that the vice president of the European Commission addresses Varhelyi, saying that Albania, which seeks to enter the EU, must face consequences if the elected mayor Fredi Beleri continues to be prevented from taking office.
