"Erion Veliaj, did not appear for the fourth time in a row"/ Kalaja:

Former Democratic Party candidate for MP, Aulon Kalaja, stated today that for the fourth time in a row, Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj has not appeared in court for the lawsuit filed against him.

Through a post on social media, Kalaja informs that the court has decided that the trial will begin on December 11 at 2:00 PM.

Kalaja says he has stated in court that the case should not be dismissed as he is convinced of his innocence and says he will prove this innocence.

Kalaja describes the lawsuit against him as a strategic lawsuit to make him afraid and not speak out about the mayor.

 

" Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj did not appear in court today (for the fourth time in a row), where he sued me for defamation, but the court decided that the hearing will begin on the merits, on December 11, at 2:00 PM.

When asked by the judge, I stated that I want the case not to be dismissed, but to continue because I am convinced of my innocence and for this I want a court decision, because I know that the Mayor of Tirana will continue with this strategy. I do not retract any statement and I will prove the opposite of any claim of defamation by the accusing party.

I am convinced that this is a "strategic lawsuit" (SLAP), with the aim of Mr. Veliaj keeping me tied up, so that I will be intimidated and scared, so that I will no longer speak about him. For over 15 years I have been in battle with the political and public model that he represents and I will continue this fight! As a journalist, activist and politician, I am his opposite.

"I know the trouble he's in, but I can't help him. The fact is that he's in a cell, while I'm a free man ," Kalaja writes.
