Energy, installed capacity in 2023 increased by only 1%

At the end of 2023, the installed capacity for electricity production in the country was 2675 MW.

This capacity turns out to have increased by about 1% during the year 2023, which means that this is the power of the new power plants that have come into operation. The figure of the Entity does not take into account the Karavasta plant, which entered into operation at the end of the year with a capacity of 140 MW.

The latter only mentions that "during the year 2023, the Karavasta 140 MWp Photovoltaic Plant, connected to the 220 kV side of the 220/110/35/20 kV Substation, was put into operation," the document says.

The increase in installed capacity is expected to be faster in the future, also as a result of the finalization of projects that started during the energy crisis, but also some auctions that the government is implementing.

In its 2023 annual report, the Energy Regulatory Authority (ERE) estimates that the installed capacity of power plants connected to the transmission network during 2023 is about 2,288 MW, and the installed capacity of power plants connected to the distribution network along of 2023 is about 382 MW.

"The total net domestic electricity production realized for 2023 is 8,795,637 MWh, of which 5,131,482 MWh was produced by power plants owned by the public company KESH sh.a., and 3,664,155 MWh was produced by other power plants. Electricity production realized for the year 2023, by KESH sh.a. accounts for 58.3% of all electricity production in our country and the production of electricity from other producers accounts for about 41.7%," the report states.

The increase in the installed capacity of electricity from year to year seems to have also influenced the overall increase in average production.

Specifically, according to ERE, from the analysis of the history of electricity production registered in the country, the year 2023 with the produced amount of 8,796 GWh, results above the average electricity production for the period 2009 - 2023.

"The average electricity production for the period 2009 - 2023 was 6,770 GWh. The realized production for the year 2023 is about 2,026 GWh, or 30% higher than the average electricity production for the period 2009 - 2023" the report underlines.

The year 2023 is considered a good hydrological year from the point of view of electricity production, which for this year has resulted in the amount of 8,796 GWh, i.e. 23 percent more than the average electricity production in the period 2009 - 2023./ Monitor.al
