The Bulgarian Parliament has approved the proposal of the French presidency of the EU Council to start negotiations for Northern Macedonia's EU membership.

This was done through a draft decision submitted by the co-chair of "Democratic Bulgaria" Hristo Ivanov, which states that, "Bulgaria will support every step of the European integration process of the Republic of Northern Macedonia in specifying the negotiating framework and conclusions of the Council to ensure the inclusion of Bulgarians in the Macedonian constitution "where other peoples are mentioned and on equal terms with these peoples".

This can practically unblock the EU integration process for Albania and Northern Macedonia.

The Bulgarian decision has been stalled for a long time due to a deep political rift in Bulgaria over the issue.

On the other hand, we recall here that Prime Minister Edi Rama has been quite critical of Bulgaria's stance.

Following the reaction of the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry, which called the statements and language used by Prime Minister Edi Rama unacceptable, the latter ironized through social networks.

"Remove the veto or be patient with me." - wrote Rama./ CNA.al
