The right to information/ Rama: There is progress in transparency, the
Prime Minister Edi Rama

Prime Minister Edi Rama, at the International Conference of Information Commissioners, the 15th edition, has stated that an extraordinary conference on the right to information will be held in June.

The number one of the government stated that the right to information is a prerequisite for the health and development of functional democracies.

Rama emphasized that there is progress in transparency, but it is not enough to the point where it aims to reach.

The Prime Minister described the gap between the drafting of laws and their implementation as a challenge.

"The challenge is how to make adults not be afraid of light and how to make governments and state institutions not be afraid of light.

I want to add that the right to information is a prerequisite for the health and development of functional democracies.

Pleased to see the progress in transparency, but aware that this progress says a lot about where we come from and shows that it is not enough compared to where we want to go. Therefore, very soon, at the end of June, we will hold an extraordinary conference on the right to information, which we have conceived as a confrontation between facts and institutions. Between what is written in our laws and what is implemented.

The gap between the drafting of laws and implementation is a challenge for many of us because we are countries and people who share a mindset when it comes to the right to information. We are not Swedish, we are aware", he said./ CNA
