QSUNT Pharmacy Director: Erasing the expiry date for medicines is untrue

The director of the Pharmaceutical Service at QSUNT, Mirela Rexhepi, has rejected the accusations of the opposition MPs, Zhani Gjergji and Albana Vokshi, stating that "there is no possibility of erasing or changing the expiry date for drugs since every action is carried out online".

During the hearing today at the Committee for Labour, Social Affairs and Health regarding the situation in the Oncology Hospital in QSUNT, as well as the findings of the 2022 HCLS Report on tumor diseases with the presence of the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Albana Koçiu , Rexhepi stated that the IT system does not depend on QSUNT, but is controlled and verified by AKSHI.

"On 04/18/23, a donation amount arrived which is stored in the hospital and there is no possibility to change the expiration date. The donation came from Italy following an agreement that the state has with Italy for medications. After they arrive in Albania, they are approved, they are provided with a stamp from the Medicines Agency, which ensures the quality of the drugs, and only after they are approved, they enter the pharmacy and are used for patients. At the moment when the expiration date passes, it is impossible to use the medicine and change the date", underlined the director of Pharmacy of QSUNT.

Rexhepi explained that "The pharmacy has the obligation to communicate with the heads of the service and we do not have contact with the patients. We notify and are in constant contact with the heads of services".

"I assure you that the expiration date has not been changed," Rexhepi reiterated, calling the statements of the Commission chairwoman and MP Vokshi untrue.

Also, the Director of the Pharmaceutical Service at QSUNT, Rexhepi explained that "for the Oncology Hospital, the drugs are issued through a refrigerated car and delivered to the head nurse. Chemotherapy is never delivered to the patient himself. Once the prescription is submitted, it is prepared by 3 pharmacists. The request for drugs is made through a prescription with two copies, one of which is stored in the pharmacy and the other in the clinical card"./ CNA
