Khamenei's son elected successor/ Expert: Compromise election to guarantee

International relations expert Adri Nurellari commented on the selection of Khamenei's son as successor to the post of Supreme Leader of Iran.

Nurellari said in the A2 CNN studio that Mojtaba Khamenei is not a charismatic figure, but a transitional choice, aiming to keep the religious and political leadership structure united.

 "It seems like a transitional choice to keep the structure together. He is not a popular charismatic with the kind of ideological charm that Khamenei had, who was one of the key figures of the '79 revolution. So it seems more like a transitional solution to bring all the parties together because there are clans and fragments of power. On one side we have the clerics who have an extraordinary role, we have the Revolutionary Guard and we have the army itself, which is also a faction. So it seems like a kind of compromise solution to keep everyone together and to guarantee national continuity at a time when their leadership has been eliminated. I don't think he brings radical changes, because he is not a charismatic figure to mobilize radical changes. What we need to understand is that beyond claims for change, regime change is impossible in the case of Iran," Nurellari said. /CNA
