World Press Freedom Day/ Yuri Kim's message to journalists

The US ambassador in Tirana, Yuri Kim

Today, as part of the World Press Freedom Day, the US ambassador, Yuri Kim, hosted a group of journalists and representatives of NGOs working on media issues in Albania.

She emphasized that a free and independent press is essential for democracy and that it is important for journalists to ask difficult questions.

She urged them to pass on the lessons they have learned to be strong and courageous to the new generation of journalists.

" I hope you will never underestimate the importance of what you are doing. I hope you will continue to do what you are doing," Ambassador Kim told reporters.

Participants discussed the challenges they face, including lack of access to information, job insecurity and lack of financial transparency from public institutions and media organizations./ CNA.al
