The government has proposed to the Assembly some changes in the law on Albanian citizenship.

The government has asked to remove some criteria for the benefit of citizenship, giving Albanian passports to foreigners who have given birth to children during their regular stay in our country.

In Article 1 of the draft law, it is stated that every child born in Albania will have the right to obtain citizenship at adulthood with the consent of both parents with other citizenships.

"The foreigner, whose minor child has Albanian citizenship, can submit a request to acquire citizenship by naturalization even if he does not meet the condition defined in letter "c", point 1, of this article, if he has resided in legal and continuous in the territory of the Republic of Albania for at least three years", the proposed draft law states.

Thus, the condition that foreigners must know the Albanian language in order to obtain citizenship is removed./ CNA.al
